SWK 640 Military Social Work
(3-0-3) This course will help civilian students understand military culture, the stressors associated with military lifestyle, and the cycles of deployment that service members and their families navigate. A focus of this course is on evidence-based practices and treatment modalities for service-related trauma, co-morbid disorders, and traumatic brain injuries. Psychosocial and relational issues with families are also examined. Military related policies are also reviewed as well as veteran systems of care. Students completing this course will have a more in-depth understanding of and ability to work with the military, veterans, and their families in a variety of settings. Admission to the MSW Program is required.
