SWK 631 Trauma Informed Care in Social Work Practice

(3-0-3) This advanced social work course examines the definition, scope, and impact of trauma from a biopsychosocial perspective. Students also examine the effects of adverse childhood events. Students build on requisite knowledge to increase familiarity with trauma related disorders included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Students gain familiarity with trauma assessment tools and practice effective trauma informed care interventions in clinical social work practice. This is the first of two required courses within the Clinical Social Work concentration of the MSW program.
