PHIL 304 Normative Ethics: Business Decision-Making
(3-0-3) Normative Ethics: Business and Decision-Making is both a theoretical and practical inquiry into the nature of commercial life. This course investigates a range of normative traditions, such as Utilitarianism, Egoism, and Virtue ethics, and applies core concepts to decision making. The course will investigate the normative and logical structure of conflicts amongst economic actors, evaluate leadership decisions, and assess the outcomes of policy according to competing normative standards. Through the application of normative theory, logic, and critical thinking students will examine case studies on such topics as corporate governance, power differences in employment, and sustainability. In addition to grasping the foundations of normative questions within economic and business-related institutions, students will develop their faculties for leadership, ethical decision making, and responsibility.
