Substance Use Disorders Minor

The substance use disorders minor is designed to prepare students for work in the field of substance use disorder treatment. Students who complete this minor will be knowledgeable in screening, assessment, treatment planning, and treatment modalities, as well as the bio-psychosocial aspects of drug use and the impact on individuals, families, and communities. The minor is open to students from any major.

Students who are interested in becoming credentialed and/or licensed alcohol and drug counselors in Kentucky, or elsewhere, must meet state requirements. Those requirements might differ from the course content in this minor. Completing the minor in substance use disorders does not imply license to practice. Students are encouraged to contact the state licensing board if they are interested in becoming a certified alcohol and drug counselor.

Students must earn a "C" or higher in all of the courses listed in order to earn the minor in Substance Use Disorders.
