SWK 471 Screening, Assessment, and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

(3-0-3) This course introduces students to the screening, assessment, and treatment of substance use disorders. Students will explore a broad range of topics, including the medical and psychosocial models of substance use disorders, assessment tools, various treatment options, co-occurring disorders, the impact of substance use disorders on the family, and the role of self-help groups. Students will be introduced to various approaches for treating SUDs, such as motivational interviewing and medication assisted treatment.
