SWK 470 Introduction to Substance Use Disorder Treatment

(3-0-3) This course provides a comprehensive overview of the history, policies, and contemporary practices in the treatment of substance use disorders. Students will analyze the evolution of societal responses to substance use, including the impact of criminalization, harm reduction strategies, and abstinence-based recovery models. Emphasis is placed on understanding stigma, motivational factors, and recovery-oriented language within diverse treatment and recovery contexts.
