EDTC 671 Current Topics in Educational Technology
(3-0-3) Today's technology is everchanging as new technology is created every day. How does this impact the classroom? The students? The educators? This course is organized around the broad question of what educators should know about the way new technologies are reshaping society in and out of classrooms. This course introduces students to both the literature about and direct experience of these new tools: research foundations and practical methods to control attention, attitudes, and tools necessary for critical consumption of information, best practices of individual digital participation and collective participatory culture, the use of collaborative media and methodologies, and the application of technology know-how to life on line and offline. Skills and knowledge gained from the course will enable students to make decisions about appropriate content and activities using the newest technologies as educators and instructional designers in P-12, higher education, and corporate environments as well as other professional settings.
