MATH 131 General Mathematics Problem Solving

(3-0-3) A course providing the student with experiences designed to improve the ability to make decisions and solve a variety of problems. Emphasis is on learning to investigate, organize, observe, question, discuss, reason, generalize and validate. Mathematical content includes topics which are related to consumer mathematics, geometry, graphs, probability and statistics. Students with an ACT MATH subscore of 18 or below will take the corequisite version of this course (MATH 131E), which adds additional instructional support. The corequisite course (MATH 131E) meets five hours per week. This course satisfies the required core-math reasoning for general education.

1. "C" or better in MATH 090, MATH 091, MATH 091C, MATH 093, or MATH 093C or 2. Minimum ACT Math score of 19 or 3. COMPASS Math score of 36-49 or 4. KYOTE score of 22
