Applying for Graduation
Students can apply for graduation online through their MyMoreheadState account by selecting Self-Service/Graduation Overview. Students completing their requirements in the fall or winter terms will participate in the December commencement ceremony. Students completing their requirements in the spring or summer terms will participate in the May commencement ceremony. Detailed instructions are available at www.moreheadstate.edu/graduation.
Applications for spring and summer terms must be completed by March 15 and applications for fall and winter terms must be completed by October 15, in order to avoid a late fee, reserve your seat at commencement, and have your name printed in the commencement program. Students will receive an email in their MSU account within 72 business hours.
Undergraduate students completing two bachelor's degrees simultaneously will need to apply twice (one for each printed diploma). See Completion of Two Bachelor's Degrees Simultaneously for additional information.
The University lists only one academic area or major on the diploma. Undergraduate diplomas display the student's legal name, degree, primary academic area or major, and honors (if applicable). Minors and additional majors or areas are not shown on the diploma. However, all completed programs are reflected on the official transcript. An academic area consists of 48 or more credit hours, while a major consists of 30-47 credit hours. Because the area encompasses a more comprehensive curriculum than the major, students who complete both an academic area and an additional major will have the academic area listed on the diploma.
Commencement is observed two times during the academic year. Ceremonies are held at the end of the fall and spring terms.
