Human Services Leadership Certificate
HSLC is a stackable certificate program to foster leadership and introductory-level general business skills in undergraduate students seeking or currently employed in human services professions, such as addiction recovery centers or other related positions. The certificate is open to all undergraduate students.
The goal of the certificate is to introduce, reinforce, and foster mastery of the concepts and skills necessary to effectively lead organizations and units within the human services system including marketing, management, budgeting, ethics, and leadership. Additional goals include increasing communication and human services intervention. Students that possess the knowledge and skills to lead within human services institutions and systems will be better prepared for success in a global environment and students who complete the certificate will have tangible evidence that they are learners who promote diversity of people and ideas, both of which are key goals outlined in MSU's mission statement. In addition, certificate completers will be prepared to better serve our communities to improve the quality of life, as outlined in the institution's mission statement.
Beyond the Department of Business Administration, the following offer courses in support of the certificate: Department of Communication, Media, Art, and Design; Department of Health, Kinesiology, Imaging, and Psychological Sciences; Department of Nursing; and the Department of Sociology, Social Work, & Criminology.
Program Competencies
Students completing the Human Services Leadership Certificate Program will be able to:
- Apply foundational business principles of management, marketing, accounting within human services organizations.
- Properly analyze ethical issues related to business and human services.
- Apply concepts of human services and mental health maintenance practices in service to others.
