Nursing – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post-Licensure RN to MSN Track)
BSN Post licensure RN MSN Track Admission Requirements
- Students must hold an active and unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN).
- Students may apply to the RN-MSN Track after completing the following courses if they have a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Please note: a minimum of 3.0 is required to enter the MSN Program.
- General Education (minimum 33 hours)
- BSN Post-Licensure Program Qualifying Requirements (BIOL 234, BIOL 235, MATH 353, BIOL 336)
- Associate or Certificate Degree Elective Hours - These elective hours will be included in credit toward the degree but not part of the academic evaluation. These elective hours are completed during pre-licensure nursing programming.
- BSN Post-licensure Program Requirements - Nursing Courses (NURS 349, NURB 327, NURB 309, NURB 314)
- Students may apply to the Graduate School and the MSN Program after completing a minimum of 9 hours of NURB 400-level courses.
MSN Program Admission Requirements
- General admission to graduate study.
- Cover letter/goal statement (1-2 pages in length, typed, double-spaced) for the MSN/FNP program to include your background description, reasons for wanting to attend the nursing graduate program and a description of post-graduation goals.
- Current copy of resume or curriculum vita to include minimum information of RN licensure (state(s) and number, educational preparation and experience background.
- Official transcript with bachelor's or master's degree in nursing from an accredited program (CCNE, ACEN, CNEA).
- GPA of 3.0 or higher on 4.0 scale of undergraduate or graduate degree.
- ESL/international students will have a minimum TOEFL score of 550, computer-based test score of 173 and internet-based score of 70.
Additional Admission Requirements (completed through the Department of Nursing)
- Complete criminal background check
- Meet departmental immunization requirements
- Three professional references from persons in a position to evaluate the applicant's success in a graduate nursing program; at least one to be completed by immediate or up line supervisor; others to be completed by a professional colleague or university faculty who are familiar with the candidate's work.
- Minimum one-year clinical experience as a registered nurse (RN) -2080 hours
- Completion of a three credit hour descriptive statistics course at the graduate or undergraduate level
Additional RN-MSN Track Application Procedures

Be admitted to the BSN Post-Licensure Program.

Complete all general education and 300-level courses required by program.

Complete at least 9 hours of 400-level courses required by program.

Have a GPA of 2.8 or higher in required courses. Please note: A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to enter the MSN program.
Additional MSN Application Procedures
- Application to the Graduate School and the MSN Program can be made when admitted to the RN-MSN Track and at least 9 hours of 400-level courses required by the BSN Post-licensure Program have been completed.
Granting of the Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree
- Granting of the BSN degree will be made with successful completion of the RN-MSN Track requirements, with or without progression into the MSN program.
