The Department of Art and Design offers programs in art education, art history, arts entrepreneurship and studio art. Courses at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels are available in art education, art history, ceramics, computer art, drawing, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.
Program Competencies
Students will be able to:
- Understand and skillfully apply various media, techniques and technology in the production and presentation of artwork.
- Use knowledge of characteristics of visual art to effectively convey ideas.
- Effectively choose a range of subject matter, symbols and ideas as content for works of art.
- Understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
- Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others.
- Make connections between the visual arts and other disciplines.
- Communicate about art effectively in written and oral form.

Senior art history written assignment evaluated by faculty
Senior exhibit up to six works evaluated by faculty
PRAXIS exam for Art Teacher Certification students

Program Requirements
- Students of sophomore rank participate in the Sophomore Exhibition and Review.
- Students of senior rank participate in the Senior Exhibition.
- Seniors produce resumes and digital portfolios.
- Transfer students must comply with the intent of these requirements on an individually evaluated basis.
- A total of 12 hours from Advanced Studies Art courses are allowable toward the degree.
- A total of 12 hours from Internship courses are allowable toward the degree.
