Sociology – Master of Arts: General Sociology Concentration

Program Requirements

Students electing this concentration must complete one of the following plans:

PLAN A (Thesis)

At least 15 hours of the sociology credit must be earned in courses at the 600-level. Coursework must include:

SOC 615	Sociological Research	3
SOC 650	Social Thought and Theory	3
Total Credit Hours:		6

Completion of 18 credit hours of approved graduate work in sociology

	Graduate Sociology Electives	18
Total Credit Hours:		18

Completion of an approved thesis (six hours).

	Thesis	6
Total Credit Hours:		6

PLAN B (Non-thesis)

At least 18 hours of sociology electives must be earned in courses at the 600-level (three hours of independent study or independent research may be taken as part of the 18 hours at the 600-level). Coursework must include:

SOC 615	Sociological Research	3
SOC 650	Social Thought and Theory	3
Total Credit Hours:		6

Completion of 24 credit hours of approved course work in sociology

	Graduate Sociology Electives	24
Total Credit Hours:		24

Complete a written comprehensive examination.

Total Credit Hours: 30
